aboutme

more about me

i was born in the late 1990s in nanminda, a village ~20 kilometers from calicut city. after finishing school, i studied at iit-madras for five years, and graduated with a master's in english studies. i joined iit-bombay after my graduation.

my phd work is about the role of discourses of rice in kerala, in creating the keralite in the twentieth century. my training in literary studies help me read texts closely, with specific orientations.

i have interned/worked with publications, newspapers, college administration, and online platforms in roles related to copyediting/proofreading/teaching/copywriting and the like.

i am trained in the tabla and apply the said training on other percussion instruments, and have had a stint with other non-percussion instruments and vocals. tangential to my work is my interest in cooking and its techniques, especially in an establishment-context. i wouldn't think julienne is a name and chiffonade is a style of dressing.

i love and hate technology—i have dabbled in markup languages (html, markdown) and basic scripting (shells and the occasional js). i used to tinker with the linux distros i've hopped, and have used a raspi for a while when i didn't have a laptop. i use academic/non-academic writing workflows with reference managers, bibtex, markdown, csl etc. for my work. i—occasionally—read and think about tech-stuff such as works by ted kaczinsky, schumacher, jacques ellul etc. and yes, i have tried a few cmses before deciding on using a wiki software for my website.

these days i use ebooks (mostly epub) on my laptop/phone/tablet in that order. i read my physical books at cafes or at places where a laptop/tablet is unwieldy. i watch movies on MUBI and less frequently on amazon/netflix platforms.
